Summertime garden dining streambed

Riverwash stones and small boulders were used to line a dry streambed through the garden. The streambed provides an attractive way for water to flow through the property. Stepping stones and step boulder were placed to make it inviting to explore the garden.
This garden was photographed immediately after installation and shows how an immediate softening of the neighbor’s homes is created. Large size Cryptomeria, Green Giant Arborvitae, and Little Gem Magnolia create a wonderfully textured, fast growing green screen. Behind the fountain, the property line is very close and narrow Emerald Green Arborvitae are used to create a green screen in this spot.

A view heading into the featured garden space. Curved, flowing paved areas make creative use of this relatively small space in a suburban neighborhood.  Columnar Emerald Green Arborvitae and Yoshino Cryptomeria are placed along the property border to enclose the space and create a sense of privacy within the garden.  Over time, these evergreens will fill in and create a green screen surrounding the garden.  In late summer the mauve umbels of Joe Pye Weed are showy paired with white David Sumer Phlox.  This plant combination attracts butterflies which will add movement and animation to the garden.  Clumps of tall Dallas Blues Switch grass were used to add texture, movement and winter interest.

Here perennials and evergreens with different foliage textures and colors are arranged to create interest and add depth to this relatively small planting area.

A smaller dining area was created to the far side of the property. This space provides an intimate space for a small gathering and is also surrounded with evergreen screening and summer flowering roses and perennials.
